| The Swainson's Hawk (Buteo swainsoni) nests across the great plains and in other grassland habitats of the western United States. The species migrates in large flocks all the way into South America for the winter. The first four images here, of birds in various plumages, were all roadside shots with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender near Marfa, Presidio Co., Texas, in September, 2005. |  |
