The Snow Bunting (Plectrophenax nivalis) is a breeding species across parts of northern Canada and Alaska and winters well into the lower 48 states. In the breeding range the species is fairly common in tundra areas and rocky areas of coastlines. The first four shots on this page show breeding plumaged males at Gambell, St. Lawrence Island, Alaska, in May, 2012. These shots were all taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
The next seven shots show female Snow Buntings at Gambell, St. Lawrence Island, Alaska, in May, 2012.
The next two images of a male Snow Bunting were taken at Barrow, Alaska, in June, 2012.
