Red-eyed Vireo
Vireo olivaceus
The Red-eyed Vireo (Vireo olivaceus) is a common nesting bird across almost all of the United States and Canada. As a breeder, it is absent from south and west Texas and most of the rest of the southwestern U.S., including California and Nevada. The bird winters south into northern South America. The first two shots here show a northbound migrant at Driftwood, Hays Co., Texas, in May, 1996. This was a captive bird which had been caught in a mist nest, held briefly for banding, then released. These shots were taken with a Canon T-90 and 100mm Macro on Fuji Provia film.
The next 3 shots of Red-eyed Vireo show a migrant bird at South Padre Island, Cameron Co., Texas, in April, 2009. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 800mm F/5.6 L IS lens.
The next 3 shots of Red-eyed Vireo were taken near Errol, Coos Co., New Hampshire, in June, 2010, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 800mm F/5.6 L IS lens.
