Prairie Falcon
Falco mexicanus
The Prairie Falcon (Falco mexicanus) is a resident across much of the western United States and northern Mexico. It winters over much of its breeding range, but wintering birds will also move eastward somewhat, into parts of the grasslands of the mid west. The first 2 shots show a Prairie Falcon in flight near Texline, Dallam Co., Texas, in January, 2009. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
