Polacantha grossa
The robber fly known as Polacantha grossa is an uncommon species in Texas. The pair in copula shown here was photographed at Santa Ana N.W.R., Hidalgo Co., Texas, in April, 2009, with a Canon EOS 50D and an EF 70-200 mm F/2.8 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash. I'd like to thank Dr. Eric Fisher for making an identification based on this image.
