Mule Deer
Odocoileus hemionus
The Mule Deer (Odocoileus hemionus) is a common and widespread deer of the western United States and Canada. It may be found in a wide variety of habitats from rugged mountain terrain to costal forests to deserts. The first six shots here were taken near Walsh, Baca Co., Colorado, in December, 2005, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender. This buck and several does were feeding late in the afternoon in a cut wheat field adjacent to a woodland.
The next four shots show a group of Mule Deer at Bosque del Apache N.W.R., Socorro Co., New Mexico, in November, 2011. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 800mm F/5.6 L IS lens.
This doe was bounding through a flock of Snow Geese. The geese paid very little attention to this disturbance.
