The Lava Lizard (Microlophus spp.) occupies many of the Galapagos Islands. There are a number of different species involved, but getting a good handle on which species is where and the visual characteristics in separating them out is more than I had time to do. Most are just referred to as "Lava Lizard" and that is the way I will list there here. The first 4 images were taken in July, 2003, on the Galapagos Islands with a Canon EOS 10D and EF 70-200 F/2.8 L IS lens and 2X extender. Also, go to the Marine Iguana page to see a Lava Lizard sitting on the head of one of the iguanas. Scroll down for more shots. |

The next three shots on this page were taken in August, 2010, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and a Sigma 50-500mm lens. The Lava Lizard on the right is investigating a sea lion carcass. |
