Indigo Bunting
Passerina cyanea
The Indigo Bunting (Passerina cyanea) breeds across much of the eastern half of the United States as well as some areas of Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona. The first two shots shown here show female birds. These females were migrants in Hidalgo Co., Texas, in April, 2006. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
The singing male Indigo Bunting in the next six shots was a territorial bird near Vanderpool, Bandera Co., Texas in April, 2008. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
