Hawai'i 'Amakihi (Hemignathus virens virens)

The 'Amakihi (Hemignathus virens) is a native Hawaiian bird on several islands in Hawaii. Each island has a distinct subspecies and the one on the big island of Hawaii is called the Hawai'i 'Amakihi (Hemignathus virens virens). Though a fairly common bird at the Hawaii Volcanos National Park, they were difficult to photograph. The single shot shown here was taken in August, 2012, at the Hawaii Volcanos National Park with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and a 1.4X extender.
