Gray Catbird
Dumetella carolinensis
The Gray Catbird (Dumetella carolinensis) is a widespread breeding bird across much of the United States and Canada. The common name comes from the "cat-like" vocalizations the bird often gives. The first shot here, of a spring migrant bathing, was taken in May, 2006, at a water hole in Hidalgo Co., Texas, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 500 mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
The Gray Catbird below was a spring migrant at Fort Jefferson on the Dry Tortugas of Florida in April, 1991.
The Gray Catbirds in the next 2 shots were nesting birds in the George Washington National Forest, Bath Co., Virginia, in June, 2010. These 2 images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 800mm F/5.6 L IS lens.
