Rio Grande Leopard Frog
Lithobates berlandieri
The Rio Grande Leopard Frog (Lithobates berlandieri) occurs across central and south Texas and into Mexico. The individual at right was in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in May, 2003, and was shot with a Canon EOS 10D and EF 70-200mm F/2.8 L IS lens and 2X extender. The three shots next were all taken in spring and summer, 2000, in Kenedy Co., Texas, with a Canon EOS 3 and an EF 300mm F/4 lens. One shows several frogs trying to stay wet and cool in some mud on the edge of a rain puddle when the surrounding area was drying up.
The shot at right was taken in Hidalgo Co., Texas, in June, 2006, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens. These Leopard Frogs were lined up along the grassy edge of a small farm pond.
The next 3 shots on the right of Rio Grande Leopard Frogs were taken near Rio Grande City, Starr Co., Texas, in May, 2010, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and a 2X extender and 580 flash.
