The Southern Copperhead (Agkistrodon contortrix contortrix) is a venomous pit viper of the southeastern United States. It is typically not aggressive, and if left alone will remain still or try to get away. It's bite, however, is dangerous, and medical help should be sought in the event of a bite from this snake. The first three images on this page show a Southern Copperhead in the Angelina National Forest, Jasper Co., Texas, in March, 2011. These images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and a Sigma 50-500mm lens and Canon 580 flash.
