Common Kingsnake
Lampropeltis getula
The Common Kingsnake (Lampropeltis getula) is a widespread snake across much of the United States. There are several different forms or subspecies and individuals vary considerably in pattern and coloration. The Common Kingsnake in the top 2 photos shown here was in Tucson, Pima Co., Arizona, in May, 2008. This snake is likely of the "California Kingsnake" subspecies, (L. g. californiae). These shots were taken with a canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 70-200mm F/2.8 L IS lens.
The next 3 shots of a "California" Common Kingsnake, were taken in Catalina, Pima Co., Arizona, in March, 2009, with the same gear described above.
