Yellowjacket Hover Fly
Milesia virginiensis
The Yellowjacket Hover Fly (Milesia virginiensis) is widespread across many areas of the eastern United States. The first 3 images on this page were taken in June, 2009, in the Angelina National Forest, Jasper Co., Texas, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash. These flies will sometimes hover for many seconds at a time, seemingly motionless, allowing flight shots to be taken.
