Within the United States, the Mexican Honey Wasp (Brachygastra mellifica) is a species of deep south Texas. It is one of very few insects other than bees that can produce and store honey. The first two shots on this page were taken in April, 2006, near McCook, Hidalgo Co., Texas, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and an EF 180 Macro lens.
