The Appalachian Jewelwing (Calopteryx angustipennis) occurs in fast flowing, clear streams and rivers in the Appalachian area of the eastern United States. It is a very striking, large damselfly, and shows green veins in the leading edge of the wings. The first six images on this page were taken along the Chattooga River in Rabun Co., Georgia, in May, 2011, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and a Sigma 50-500mm lens and Canon 580 flash. The first five shots show males.
The female Appalachian Jewelwing on the right was perched on a rock in the river.
