Eastern Cottontail
Sylvilagus floridanus
The Eastern Cottontail (Sylvilagus floridanus) is a resident across most of the eastern United States. The first five shots shown here were taken in Starr Co., Texas, in April, 2007, a location where the range of this animal and the similar Desert Cottontail (S. audubonii) overlap. The smaller ear size of this animal in comparison to Desert Cottontail suggest it is Eastern Cottontail.
The Eastern Cottontail on the right was in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in July, 2012. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
