Common Spotted Whiptail
Cnemidophorus gularis
The Common Spotted Whiptail (Cnemidophorus gularis) formerly called Texas Spotted Whiptail, occurs across most of Texas but ranges into parts of Oklahoma, New Mexico and n.e. Mexico as well. It is usually found near some sort of river or stream but can occupy a variety of habitats from rocky washes to prairies. This individual was photographed near Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in June, 2003, with a Canon 10D and EF 70-200mm F/2.8 L IS lens and 2X extender.
