White Admiral
Limenitis arthemis
The White Admiral (Limenitis arthemis arthemis) is also known as the Red-spotted Admiral. There are two forms which are considered the same species, but are very different visually. The "White Admiral" form in the top image here was taken in August, 1999, at Fenske Lake, St. Louis Co., Minnesota. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 1N and an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and Fuji Sensia 100 film. See also the dark form of this species which is called Red-spotted Purple (L. a. astyanax)
