Papilio palamedes
The Palamedes Swallowtail (Papilio palamedes) is a large, colorful butterfly of swamplands from New Jersey to Florida and west to east Texas. The individual in the top shot shown here was working through a swampy woodland in Jasper Co., Texas in June, 2009, when it paused briefly on a left. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 l IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash.
The next two shots of Palamedes Swallowtail were taken in the Angelina National Forest, Jasper Co., Texas, in March, 2011, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and a Sigma 50-500mm lens and Canon 580 flash.
