Arizona Powdered-Skipper
Systasea zampa
The Arizona Powdered-Skipper (Systasea zampa) is a small skipper of the American Southwest, occurring in parts of west Texas as well as southern portions of New Mexico, Arizona and California. It is also found in western Mexico. This species is very similar to the Texas Powdered-Skipper (S. pulverulenta) and care is needed to distinguish them. The individual shown here was found along a tiny stream in a rocky canyon in Presidio Co., Texas, in May, 2008. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
