Assorted Waders
The llanos of Venezuela can host an amazing number of herons, egrets, and storks at most times of the year. This concentration of birds was at a water hole on Hato El Cedral, Apure, in April 1992. Visible in the photo are Wood Stork, Maguari Stork, Jabiru, Scarlet Ibis, Roseate Spoonbill, Great Egret, White-necked Heron, Neotropic Cormorant, and perhaps others. Several Capyberas, a pig-sized mammal of the rodent family, are visible in the foreground and the left background.
