Prairie Warbler
Setophaga discolor
The Prairie Warbler (Setophaga discolor) breeds across much of the eastern United States in open habitats such as brushy pastures, overgrown fields and mangrove thickets. In Texas, the species breeds in the far eastern part of the state, often in clear cuts that have been allowed to grow new trees for one to ten years. The male show here was defending a territory in a scrubby thicket in the Angelina National Forest in Angelina Co., Texas in June, 2003. The photo is a digital capture and was shot with a Canon EOS 10D and 600 mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
The next 6 shots of a Prairie Warbler were taken in June, 2008, at the same location as the above 2003 image. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
The male Prairie Warblers in the next 4 shots were in the Angelina National Forest, Angelina Co., Texas, in May, 2009. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 50D and an EF 800mm F/5.6 L IS lens.
