Northern Mockingbird
Mimus polyglottos
The Northern Mockingbird (Mimus polyglottos) is a common and widespread species across most of the southern two-thirds of the United States as well as most of Mexico. The first three shots shown on this page were taken near Edinburg, Hidalgo Co., Texas in May, 2006. The photos were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and an EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens.
The shot on the right shows a Northern Mockingbird on a very typical perch; a barbed wire fence. This image was taken in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in December, 2004.
The shot at right shows a Northern Mockingbird which has been eating some type a berries that resulted in purple stains around its bill. This image was taken with the same digital equipment as the initial shots, but in Coleman Co., Texas, in December, 2005.
The next two shots were taken in April, 2006, in Hidalgo Co., Texas with the same digital equipment previously described.
The Northern Mockingbird on the right was feeding young at a nest in Kenedy Co., Texas in June, 2002. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 1V and EF 600mm F/4 L lens and 1.4X extender on Fuji Provia film.
The next three images were taken in Starr Co., Texas, in April, 2007, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens.
The next 2 shots of Northern Mockingbird were taken in Starr Co., Texas, in April, 2009, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 800mm F/5.6 L IS lens. The bird is bathing in the 2nd shot.
