| The Northern Bobwhite (Colinus virginianus) is a resident bird of the eastern half of the U.S. and parts of Mexico. The male quail shown here is singing its characteristic "bob white" vocalization from a mesquite tree, while the female is moving through deep grass near a nest. These shots were in Kenedy Co., Texas, the female in 2000 and the male in 2002. The shot in 2000 was taken with Canon EOS 3 and a 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender on Fuji Velvia, while the shots in 2002 were taken with a Canon EOS 1V and the same lens and film. Below the top three film shots will be some more recent digital images. |  |

| The six Bobwhites above came to the edge of a small pond to drink in April, 2006, in Hidalgo Co., Texas. This shot, and the next eight below were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and an EF 500 mm F/4 L IS lens or a600 mm F/4 L IS lens.
