Mourning Dove
Zenaida macroura
The Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura) is a common and widespread species across North America and Mexico. It is a familiar site along roadways and fields virtually anywhere in the United States. The dove shown here was a digital shot in Tucson, Pima Co., Arizona, in April, 2003, with a Canon EOS10DI and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.


The next two shots show Mourning Doves in Tucson, Pima Co., Arizona, in April, 2005. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and an EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens.
 
The shot at right was taken with the same equipment as the previous image near Marfa, Presidio Co., Texas, in September, 2005.
The next three shots at right were taken in spring, 2006, in Hidalgo Co., Texas with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
 
The pair of Mourning Doves here was at the edge of a water hole in Starr Co., Texas, in May, 2007. This shot was taken with the same gear as the images just previous.
The next 2 shots show a juvenile plumaged Mourning Dove. The first image shows the young bird alone, but in the next shot, two adults are also visible. These 2 shots were taken in Starr Co., Texas, in April, 2009 with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 800mm F/5.6 L IS lens.
