The Lincoln's Sparrow (Melospiza lincolnii) is a widespread and common bird across much of North America. It winters across Texas and can sometimes be found in large numbers. The first image on this page was taken of a migrant in April, 1995 in Starr Co., Texas with a tripod-mounted Canon T-90 and Sigma 500mm F4.5 lens with a 1.4X extender on Fuji Sensia 100. The next shot is a wintering bird in Kenedy Co., Texas, in February, 2000. That shot was taken with a Canon EOS 3 and EF 600mm F/4 L lens and 1.4X extender on Fuji Velvia. The next two shots are of a territorial male at Red Rocks Lake N.W.R., Beaverhead Co., Montana, in June, 2001. Those images were taken with the same gear as the Kenedy Co., Texas shot.
The Lincoln's Sparrow here was a wintering bird at Bosque del Apache N.W.R., Socorro Co., New Mexico, in November, 2005. It was shot with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS land and 1.4X extender.
The next three shots were taken of Lincoln's Sparrows about to bathe in a small water hole in Hidalgo Co., Texas in April, 2006, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens.
