Hermit Thrush
Catharus guttatus
The Hermit Thrush (Catharus guttatus) breeds across much of the northern two thirds of the United States and Canada including the Rocky Mountain areas. The species is a common wintering bird in the southern United States and much of Mexico. The shot of the wintering bird on the right was taken in Lincoln Co., New Mexico while the next two shots were taken in Palo Duro Canyon, Randall Co., Texas. All three shots were taken in November 2005, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
The Hermit Thrush in the next 2 shots was in Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Randall Co., Texas, in January, 2009. These 2 images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 800mm F/5.6 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
