The Common Redpoll (Acanthis flammea) is a northern finch which breeds across parts of Northern Canada and Alaska in tundra scrub and forests. During winter, the species may show up regularly in the lower 48 states and has wandered as far south as Texas. The first two shots on this page show a redpoll in Nome, Alaska, in May, 2012. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender. See the closely related Hoary Redpoll. | |
