| The Common Tern (Sterna hirundo) nests along much of the east coast of the United States as well as in fresh-water habitats of Canada. It is a common migrant along the Gulf coast of Texas. The first 4 images of Common Tern on this page show a bird in mostly breeding plumage as well as one in first summer plumage with a distinctive dark carpal bar. These 4 shots were taken on South Padre Island, Cameron Co., Texas, in May, 2010, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 800mm F/5.6 L IS lens. |  |
