Brown Snake-Eagle
Circaetus cinereus
The Brown Snake-Eagle (Circaetus cinereus) is widespread over much of southern Africa. The one shown here was near Satara Camp, in Kruger National Park, Mpumalanga Province, South Africa in January, 2006. The photos were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II & EF 500mm F/4L IS lens and a 2X extender. The bird is a little ratty looking because it is moulting at this time of year. This snake-eagle has captured a lizard which it has firmly in its grasp.
