Brown-crested Flycatcher
Myiarchus tyrannulus
The Brown-crested Flycatcher (Myiarchus tyrannulus) occurs from the southwestern United States all the way south to northern Argentina. It is one of the "look-alike" species of the genus Myiarchus and practice is needed to separate it from other similar members of its genus. These birds pictured in the top two photos shown here were carrying food to nestlings in a hollow mesquite stump in June, 2000, on a private ranch in Kenedy Co., Texas. The photos here were taken from a blind with a Canon EOS 3 and EF600mm F4L lens with a 1.4X extender from a Gitzo tripod on Fuji Velvia pushed one stop. The next two photos were digital captures in April, 2005, in Tucson, Pima Co., Arizona, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens with a 1.4X extender.
The next four images of Brown-crested Flycatchers were taken in the spring and early summer of 2006in Hidalgo Co., Texas with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
