Baltimore Oriole
Icterus galbula
The Baltimore Oriole (Icterus galbula) is a common breeding species across the eastern two-thirds of the United States. The species winters across much of Mexico southward into northern South America. The first three shots here, of a migrant male near a water hole, were taken in Hidalgo Co., Texas in late April, 2006. The images were shot with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and a 1.4X extender.
The next two shots at right, of another migrant adult male, were taken in Kenedy Co., Texas, in April, 2000, with a Canon EOS 1N and EF 600mm F/4 L lens on Fuji Velvia film.
The nestling Baltimore Oriole in the next 2 shots shown here was perched on a branch near the nest along the Savage River, Garrett Co., Maryland, in June, 2010.
