Alder Flycatcher
Empidonax alnorum
The Alder Flycatcher (Empidonax alnorum) breeds across parts of the northeastern United States and much of Canada and winters outside the United States in western South America. It does not migrate across the Gulf of Mexico like many other neotropical migrants, but rather, is considered a Circum-Gulf migrant. All members of the genus Empidonax should be identified with care since they are all very similar in appearance. This north-bound spring migrant was near McCook, Hidalgo Co., Texas, in May, 2006. The image was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
The next three images show an Alder Flycatcher on its nesting grounds along Campbell Creek, Anchorage, Alaska, in June, 2012. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
