The Green Lynx Spider (Peucetia viridans) occurs across the southern United States and throughout Mexico. The species is known to prey on bees, wasps, and many other insects, including many that are larger than itself. The spider in the top image shown here was foraging on the pad of a Prickly Pear Cactus in Kenedy Co., Texas, in June 2000. It was photographed with a Canon EOS 3 and EF 180mm F/3.5 Macro on Fuji Velvia. The next two shots were digital captures in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in September, 2006, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender. | |
