Amazon Darner
Anax amazili
The Amazon Darner (Anax amazili) has been recorded in a few places in the southern United States from Florida west to Texas. In recent years it has been most often seen in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas, but it is still a decidedly rare species in the U.S. The first 2 shots of a female shown here were taken at Santa Ana N.W.R., Hidalgo Co., Texas, in October, 2008, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash.
The young male Amazon Darner in the next 3 shots, was at Bentsen Rio Grande State Park, Hidalgo Co., Texas, in October, 2008. These images were taken with the same gear as previously described.
