The Yellow-billed Cuckoo (Coccyzus americanus) nests across the eastern two-thirds of the United States as well as parts of northern Mexico. The species winters in South America. The Yellow-billed Cuckoo is heard more often than it is seen as it moves through eastern forests searching out its main diet, large caterpillars. The first 2 shots on this page show a spring migrant at South Padre Island, Cameron Co., Texas, in April, 2009, These 2 shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 800mm F/5.6 L IS lens.
