Calidris fuscicollis
The White-rumped Sandpiper (Calidris fuscicollis) breeds in the high arctic tundra and winters in South America. The first shot on this page was taken of a spring migrant in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in May, 2008. The next two shots show an individual along the shore of Lake Somerville, Burleson Co., Texas, also in May, 2008. The first image was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender. The bottom two shots were taken with the same camera, but with an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and a 2X extender.
The next 8 shots of White-rumped Sandpiper were taken in May, 2010. The first 6 were on South Padre Island, Cameron Co., Texas and the bottom 2 were in Austin, Travis Co., Texas. These are all northbound migrants.
