Contopus sordidulus
The Western Wood-Pewee (Contopus sordidulus) breeds across much of western North America from Alaska south into Mexico. It is a common flycatcher in many locations and its voice is one of the familiar summer bird songs to many people within its range. The shots here were taken in the Davis Mountains, Jeff Davis Co., Texas. The shot at right was taken in June, 2005, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender. The shot on the right of an adult bird at a nest with young was taken in June, 1998, with a Canon EOS 1N and EF 300 mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
