Warbling Vireo
Vireo gilvus
The Warbling Vireo (Vireo gilvus) nests across much of the United States and over a large area of Canada. This species is generally broken down into "Eastern" and "Western" Warbling Vireos, with the eastern birds averaging slightly brighter in overall coloration. Still, it is a drab bird, but its song is a common summer sound across much of the country. The two different birds in the top 8 shots shown here are "western" Warbling Vireos at Coyote Creek State Park, Mora Co., New Mexico, in June, 2007. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
