The Violet-green Swallow (Tachycineta thalassina) is a bird of the western United States and Canada, breeding from parts of northern Mexico into Alaska. It may be common in many different woodland habitats where it constructs a nest in a tree or rock cavity. The first shot on this page shows a Violet-green Swallow resting on the hand rail of a boardwalk at Potter's Marsh, Anchorage, Alaska, in May, 2012.
