Spotted Towhee
Pipilo maculatus
The Spotted Towhee (Pipilo maculatus) breeds across most of western North America and much of western Mexico. The first two shots here are of a male on breeding territory at the Dinosaur National Monument in Moffat Co., Colorado, in June, 2001. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 3 and EF 600mm F/4 L lens and 1.4X extender on Fuji Velvia.
This shot was taken with the same gear and film described previously and shows a newly fledged Spotted Towhee in Yucaipa, San Bernardino Co., California, in August, 2001.
The Spotted Towhee shown here was in Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Randall Co., Texas, in January, 2009. This image was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 800mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
The next five images of Spotted Towhee were taken at Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Randall Co., Texas, in January, 2011, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens.
