Rufous-backed Robin
Turdus rufopalliatus
The Rufous-backed Robin (Turdus rufopalliatus) is a species which normally occurs in parts of western and southern Mexico. The species has, however, wandered northward into the United States on a number of occasions. There are about a dozen records of this bird in Texas but it has also occurred in New Mexico, Arizona, and California. The two shots at right show a bird which spent three months in the late winter and early spring of 2006 near Utley, Bastrop Co., Texas. The shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and a 1.4X extender.
