The *Orange-crowned Warbler (Vermivora celata)* breeds across most of Canada and Alaska as well as many areas of the Rocky Mountains in the United States. It winters in the southern United States and Mexico. It can be a very common species in some areas. The "orange crown" of the bird is seldom seen in the field. The shot shown here was taken in Kenedy Co., Texas, in February, 2000, with a Canon EOS 3 and EF 600mm F/4 L lens and 1.4X extender on Fujia Provia film. This is an adult bird. The next three images are digital captures in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in December, 2005, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender. This is probably a young bird judging from the grayish head. The next shot shows another immature Orange-crowned Warbler in Coleman, Coleman Co., Texas, also in December, 2005. It was taken with the same gear as the shots just above.




The Orange-crowned Warbler shown here was a wintering bird near Rio Grande City, Starr Co., Texas, in December, 2007. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
The bird shown here was at the same location as the one just above and was shot with the same gear. This bird is standing in shallow water while bathing. The orange in the crown can be seen a little in this shot.
