Northern Beardless-Tyrannulet
Camptostoma imberbe
The Northern Beardless-Tyrannulet (Camptostoma imberbe) occurs in the United States in deep south Texas as well parts of southwest New Mexico and southeast Arizona. It is widespread in Mexico. It is generally regarded as the smallest flycatcher in the U.S. and at only a little over 4 inches in length, it is indeed tiny. It is known for flycatching within the interior of a bush or shrub. The first 5 images on this page were taken in Catalina, Pima Co., Arizona, in March, 2009, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 800mm F/5.6 L IS lens and 1.4X extender. For many years this species was called Northern Beardless-Flycatcher.
