Yellow-bellied Marmot
Marmota flaviventris
The Yellow-bellied Marmot (Marmota flaviventris) is a resident of montane areas of the American West. It ranges from parts of southwest Canada down to some areas of southern California and eastward into northern New Mexico. The first 2 shots here were taken on Mt. Evans, Clear Creek Co., Colorado, in June, 2001, with a Canon EOS 3 and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens on Fuji Velvia.
The next 4 images were taken at the same location as the above shots, Mt. Evans, Colorado, but 6 years later in June, 2007. These are digital images taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 100-400 F/4.5-5.6 L IS lens. In the bottom shot the animal yawned, showing his dental work.
The Yellow-bellied Marmots in the following 9 shots were near Blue Lakes, Summit Co., Colorado, in July, 2008. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens.
