Mexican Argia species
The Argia species shown here was photographed along a small stream through a clearing in the cloud forest at the El Triunfo Biological Preserve, Chiapas, Mexico, in March, 2005. The elevation at this location is approximately 6500 feet. Males of various ages and a female are shown here. I have also posted some close-ups of the end of the abdomen of both sexes so the pattern can be seen more clearly. A number of odonata experts have examined these images and so far no one has been able to make an ID. It has been suggested that this may be an unknown species. Without specimen material it is doubtful these images can be identified, but I have decided to post them here in the event anyone is interested. The shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash.
