Triorla interrupta
The robber flies on this page are all known as Triorla interrupta. The first image of a T. interrupta was photographed in Austin, Travis Co., Texas in October, 2004, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and an EF 300 mm F/4L IS lens with a 2X extender and 550 EX flash. Herschel Raney has more excellent photos of this species on his Arkansas site here and Giff Beaton has shots from Georgia here. At Giff's site scroll down to several shots of this species. This is a very widespread species in the U.S. as well as Mexico and central America. My thanks to Herschel Raney and Mike Thomas for their help with identification of this robber. I will add more shots of this species when I can.
The next two shots were also taken in Austin, Travis Co., Texas in the spring and early summer, 2005.
The robber here has a grasshopper as a prey item.
The T. interrupta shown here was in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in September, 2007. This image was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
The T. interrupta shown here was along the banks of the Guadalupe River in Gonzales Co., Texas, in June, 2008. The robber is holding a green grasshopper it has captured. The same photo gear as previously described was used.
Another T. interrupta with another grasshopper in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in August, 2009. The same photo gear as previously described was used.
