Thornbush Dasher
Micrathyria hagenii
The Thornbush Dasher (Micrathyria hagenii) is a fairly small dragonfly of southwest Texas. During mid summer it often can be common across much of central Texas as well. The male dasher shown at right was photographed at Balcones Canyonlands NWR, Travis Co., Texas in June, 2003. The next shot, of a young female, was taken in Austin, Travis Co., Texas in May, 2003. Both shots were taken with a Canon EOS 10D and 70-200 mm F2.8 L IS lens and 2X extender and 550 EX flash.
The male Thornbush Dasher below was in Hidalgo Co., Texas in June, 2006, and was shot with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash.
