Sinuous Snaketail
Ophiogomphus occidentis

The Sinuous Snaketail (Ophiogomphus occidentis) is a dragonfly of rivers and streams in the northwest United States and parts of western Canada. Visually, it is very similar to Great Basin Snaketail (O. morrisoni) but the shoulder stripes on the latter are wider and straighter. An examination of the male appendages with a hand lupe may be necessary to make the distinction between these two species. The first two shots of a male on this page were taken along Crescent Creek, Deschutes National Forest, Klamath Co., Oregon, in August, 2008, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 l IS lens and 2X extender.
